Code Signing - required documents

EV Code Signing Certificate

The issuance of the EV Code Signing certificate requires verification of the identity of the Subscriber and of the Organization.

Verification based on documents
The person requesting the certificate should provide Certum with the following documents:

  • confirmation of identity at the Registration Point or at the Identity Confirmation Point details, sample statement can be downloaded here or
  • notarized proof of identity or for quicker issuance
  • a copy of the identity document of the person requesting the certificate (identity card,  passport, driver’s license, permanent residence card)

ATTENTION! The copy (scan) should be a complete reproduction of the document (i.e., include all of its pages).

Identity may also be confirmed on the basis of a valid qualified certificate issued by Certum for person requesting the Subscriber’s certificate.

 

In addition, Certum also requires sending the following:

  1. a utilities (gas, electricity, water, telephone, etc.) bill issued to the certified organization,
  2. power of attorney or authorization confirming the relationship of the person requesting the certificate with the organization — if the person requesting is not listed in the relevant register as a person authorized to represent the company (Power of attorney),
  3. company registration document, when the company is not listed in the KRS/GUS/CEiDG register.

In justified cases, the Certum team may ask for sending additional documents necessary for proper verification.
All collected documents should be sent to Certum using one of the following methods:

  • by e-mail as a password-protected file to the address: ccp@certum.pl (recommended form), please contact the Certum technical support helpline in order to determine how to transfer the password

  • by post to:

NOTE
We do not issue Certum EV Code Signing certificates:

  • to natural persons — no field of the certificate may include the following data: full name
  • to domains, IP numbers.

Standard Code Signing Certificate

The issuance of the Standard Code Signing certificate requires verification of the identity of the Subscriber/Organization.

Verification based on documents
The person requesting the certificate should provide Certum with the following documents:

Verification of the identity of a natural person requesting the certificate on their own behalf

  • confirmation of identity at the Registration Point or at the Identity Confirmation Point (details, sample statement can be downloaded here or
  • notarized proof of identity or for quicker issuance
  • a copy of the identity document of the ordering person (ID card, passport, driving license, permanent residence card). The copy should be a fully reproduced document (both sides). The identity can also be confirmed on the basis of a valid qualified certificate issued for the Subscriber by Certum.

Open Source Code Signing Certificate

We issue Open Source Code Signing certificates only to natural persons.

We would like to inform you that since March 13, 2017, the option of telephone verification for Open Source Code Signing certificates is not available.
Verification based on documents

Copies of the following documents must be provided to Certum for verification purposes:

  • confirmation of identity at the Registration Point or at the Identity Confirmation Point (details: https://certum.store/certum-reseller-points-map, sample statement can be downloaded here (link: https://files.certum.eu/documents/repsitory/7-doc-templates/Declaration-on-confirming-the-subscribers-identity.pdf) or
  • notarized proof of identity or for quicker issuance
  • a copy of the identity document of the person requesting the certificate (identity card, passport, driver’s license, permanent residence card).

ATTENTION! The copy should be a complete reproduction of the document (i.e. include all of its pages).

The identity can also be confirmed on the basis of a valid qualified certificate issued for the Subscriber by Certum.
and

  1. a utilities (gas, electricity, water, telephone, etc.) bill issued to the subscriber,
  2. the website address of the ongoing Open Source project.
    The project must be publicly available and indicate clearly the subscriber’s relationship with the project. If Certum is unable to identify the project based on publicly available information, the certification application will be rejected.

All collected documents should be sent to Certum using one of the following methods:

  • by e-mail as a password-protected file to the address: ccp@certum.pl (recommended form),
  • please contact the Certum technical support helpline in order to determine how to transfer the password

NOTE
1. Open Source Code Signing certificates cannot contain domain names and IP addresses.
2. The person requesting the certificate must also be the certificate subscriber.
3. We issue Open Source Code Signing certificates only to natural persons.
4. When a certificate is issued, the phrase “Open Source Developer” is automatically added in the “CN” (Common Name) field, while the Organization field only contains “Open Source Developer”.

Validity of the documents being the basis for verification of certification applications:

  1. For new certification applications and for renewed certificates, documents and information from public registers may not be older than 398 days.
  2.  Authorization documents, whether they are timely or not — remain valid for 398 days from the date of issue.
  3. Identity documents must be up-to-date (valid) on the day the certificate is issued.
  4. Identity documents delivered to Certum should be e-mailed in the form of a password-protected file, please contact the Certum technical support helpline in order to determine how to transfer the password
